Usually, the families thank the scientific
world, the psychiatrists and the friends of persons with brain
disorders for the work they do to improve the lives of their loved
ones.
At this time, the families working on this website want to recognize
ourselves, and all the other families of mentally ill persons
who do their best to deal with their loved ones' problems, as
"unsung heroes," and much deserving of praise.
We are the relatives who blindly follow our heart and instincts
and silently, with precious little support from society or friends,
without expert knowledge and, in many instances, little economic
resources, but with love, care for most persons with serious mental
illnesses / substance abuse disorders.
Remember - we must recognize each other, since many untreated
mentally ill persons actually blame their families for
the circumstances of their life. Erroneously, they may believe
their illnesses are the result of lack of nurturing or some parenting
mistake, instead of biological and treatable brain disorders.
Then, quite convincingly, they "tell their own truth."
